POLLY HUNTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Polly Hunter was a charter member of the 1958 Greene County Legal Secretaries Association, now known as the Springfield Area Legal Support Professionals.  Miss Polly was a chapter leader who provided wisdom, leadership, and devoted service to the association and to the Springfield, Greene County legal community for many, many  years. Her knowledge, guidance, and wit are missed by many and this annual award is given in her honor.   

Rules and Regulations

The Polly Hunter Memorial Scholarship is awarded in January of each year to a qualified individual based upon his or her scholastic achievements, leadership qualities, and financial needs. The scholarship award may be granted to any qualified appliant, however, preference will be given to those seeking course work of a legal nature.

The candidate must (a) be a high school senior or individual currently enrolled in a school of advanced education; (b) have a 3.5 or above GPA, or be in the top 25% of his or her class; and (c) demonstrate a finance need. 

Candidates eligible for nomination may include previous Polly Hunter Memorial Scholarship nominees and recipients.

The application and all attachments must be mailed in QUADRUPLICATE to the SALSP Scholarship Chairman and must be postmarked no later than JANUARY 1, 2017. Any application postmarked after that date will be DISQUALIFIED.

The name of the applicant shall appear ONLY on the application form.  Any application attachments bearing the name of the applicant will be DISQUALIFIED.  (The word "applicant" may be substituted for the name of the applicant.)

In the event the winner does not or cannot accept the scholarship award, the scholarship shall be awarded to the next highest candidate in order. The award, or any balance thereof, shall be returned to SALSP if the winner, or successor, accepts the scholarship and thereafter does not attend school, or does not maintain reasonable attendance and/or grades.

The scholarship monetary award shall be paid directly to the school of choice in the winner's name for enrollment in the ensuring school term. 

Winners of the Polly Hunter Memorial Scholarship who are pursuing work of a legal nature may be submitted as candidates for the NALS of Missouri Memorial Scholarship awarded at the NALS of Missouri Annual Membership Meeting held in May of each year.
